Revitalizing the industrial shell

Project Themes

Interior Architecture, Adaptive Reuse, Industrial spaces.

Section Perspective
Central studio space

Design development, Sectional thinking
Workshop spaces
The project takes up an underused industrial shell in the college town, providence. Its characteristics of long spanning roofs, volume, ease of access, and proximity to the creative community are its pluses.

Present in a winter-centric location, its adaptation into an indoor, large-scale space that is all-season friendly would make it a value addition to the context. The design looks closely at programs such as workshops, studios, artist residences and exhibition spaces. And adapts the existing shell resourcefully to hold a renewed purpose.

Drawing for Adaptation
Retail spaces

Kit of parts
Maker spaces
The project transforms a Boston brownstone into a host for contemporary fashion retail brands that are repair-centric in their ethos. The adaptation applies a minimalist display system, translating into the space, the brand’s ethos.

It also blends retail and community spaces with treatments that appear pop and vibrant. Alongside, the built-in parts that are minimal in impact, reflecting the very brands they represent.

Design Thesis

Project Themes

Design Research, Speculative design,
Interior Architecture, Adaptive Reuse

Speculative design visualization
Expanded timeline, Research phases

Architecture of the past was regarded as a concrete entity, both in its materiality and approach, unresponsive to change within a city. Climatic and societal shifts greatly impact cities ill-prepared to adjust. How can the intractable architecture of the past become flexible?

Set within the conceptual thesis track, the design explores what role adaptive reuse can play to add value to society? How could it think of urban forces at play, and think about the room currently lacking for nature.

Printmaking samples

Through printmaking, I explored various ways of viewing, approaching, and layering colours in agile and tangible ways. By pursuing this, I bring to my work a range of working with the same, which translates back into space.
